Sorry I can’t be on camera with some home life going on here, but I’m so grateful you’re here today. What’s your sense of the “right” time to bring students into this kind of work. I’m thinking about levels of mastery in students’ learning and when they are most able to engage productively both for themselves and also with community partners. Do we think of this work as an upper level experience, or can we engage earlier on?

My parents are asleep, so I can't speak haha but: Whether it's through research, performance, classes, etc. what should we keep in mind to avoid becoming too preachy? I think that in this age of performative activism, it's hard to tell if someone is serious and committed about social justice and change, or if they're doing it for the sake of doing it. How do we commit strongly to our beliefs and advocate for them in different ways in a way that people will take seriously?

At NYU there were some classes that included a cohort of community members alongside university students. They weren’t enrolled in the class, and their role was distinct, but the work was collaborative.

Those were evening classes.

What age group were these community member's in?

Mostly young people, because I was in the educational theatre program. So a class called “dramatic activities in the elementary classroom” had a cohort of elementary school kids participating in the class.
