That’s huge

What do you anticipate will be opportunities and challenges around vaccines for children as they become available?
Drew Ochengco
37:39
Too true w/ immigrant populations. I know my parents often talk about vaccinations that were forced upon them when they came to the U.S. Most every Filipino immigrant from my parents’ era have the same scar on their shoulders..
Becky Briesacher

I enjoyed this discussion but have to leave. Thank you to everyone for sharing their time and expertise.
Margarita DiVall

I have the same scar Drew! I am convinced that for immigrants from former USSR there is trauma associated with mandates and requirements that will make us mistrustful and resistant to any mandates. It's also important to say that training on cultural humility and systemic racism and it's consequences is still lagging behind of where it should be both for current and future health care professionals
Jeff Yu
44:43
Will COVID vaccine become a mandate for new immigrants?
Drew Ochengco
45:39
Thank you for sharing, Margarita. I completely agree
Charles Findley
45:56
How can we have anonymous vaccinations? We have a whole group of people in cities like Chelsea Lynn, Everet, ,and Revere who will not provide an address or security number for fear of being tracked by ICE.
Margarita DiVall
47:45
@Charles, I hope that once the vaccine eligibility is open to all, that this is an important consideration of being able to walk in and get vaccinated without having to provide too much information
Drew Ochengco
50:24
Great point, Neil

I wonder about forcing mechanisms to drive change- for instance drinking age being 21 tied to highway funding, or other such policies tied to purse strings. Might it be a way to force change among cities to equitably and quickly lean into some of the progressive ideas shared here today to hit certain benchmarks or face financial penalties?
Danzel Jones (He/Him/His)
55:20
I did see a school in the US that has already mandated for their students, faculty, and staff to be vaccinated by the start of the next academic year
Karen Phillips
56:03
Yes, Rutgers is mandating students be vaccinated to be on campus in the Fall
Jeff Yu

For the Vaccine, what is the different between FDA approved, FDA registered, and FDA emergency use? Are they in particular order?

Use of the Medical Reserve Corps, who have been preparing for this for years was not done. The ability of local pharmacies, both chain and independent, to get and administer the vaccination to bring the vaccine to the people in their local area. is being stalled by the use of mass vaccine sites with limited geographical coverage. Using both will address access for many people in all areas of the state.

I also wonder what tracking/ privacy issues will occur as private companies (like CVS and Walgreens) shift to becoming major vaccine distributors… But that’s a big thought. Thanks all for your all’s insights!
